Departs from Waitohi Downs.
Leave the stable and ride around the track towards the Hurunui River, viewing a vast expanse of flat farm land, braided river bed and the Balmoral Forest. Riding on up the river gorge, brown trout can be observed lying in the crystal clear water. Continuing on, the deer behind the high fences, alert and suspicious, watch us ride around the perimeter of their paddocks. Riding up Pig Creek, occasionally a wild boar is seen roaming around the tussocky slopes where sheep and cattle graze. One the way home we pass the stallion, (sire of the younger horses), often standing on a rock outcrop looking like a dark sentinel watching our progress down the track back to the stable.
BBQ meal available on request at an extra charge.

To make a reservation on any of our rides we require a honest assessment of your height, weight, and riding ability. The horses really appreciate it!
We lead the horses down steep terrain, this is where the sturdy boots with good ankle support are most important. A very good level of fitness is required; good hips knees, ankles.
